As Chicago is affectionately known as the Windy City, take a break from those windy days and stop in at the Shedd Aquarium, the home of over 25,000 kinds of fish. Read on for tips, good to know items and deals on tickets and prices.
Shedd Aquarium, located at 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive, is just a short walk from the Chicago Loop and downtown hotels. What to do at an aquarium? Be prepared to dive deep into fun experiences here. The Shedd Aquarium is open for fun everyday of the year except Christmas. Operating hours vary by season but are either 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM depending on the day of the week.
Don’t know how you are going to get to Shedd Aquarium? When you get tickets and prices through 365 Tickets USA, we also hook you up with a free Uber trip credit! The Uber trip credit is good for new Uber accounts only but is a quick and easy way to arrive at the aquarium without the hassle of the Chicago public transportation system.
Now that you’ve arrived, where do you start? Well for one, if you are a 365 Tickets buyer, you will get to bypass the general admission line and head straight to will call. You will be given your tickets and wristbands for the aquatics show and off you go.
The aquarium is a great place for an indoor adventure on a cold Chicago winter day. Once inside the museum, be sure to grab a guide map and plan your day full of deep-sea dive fun. One of our favorite exhibits to visit was that of the new Underwater Beauty area. The new exhibit aims to show all visitors to Shedd how thousands of these fish and sea life creatures can live in peace and coexist. While you are in this exhibit, you’ll learn about some of the efforts going on worldwide to protect and conserve the ocean.
How often do you get to be up close to a Caribbean Reef? At Shedd, it can be everyday if you please! The Caribbean Reef exhibit gives you a 360-degree tour of an underwater reef community. You’ll be able to follow green turtles, watch sting rays glide by with ease, and get face to face with parrot fish and sharks. See if you can spot the slippery and sly eel. We promise he’s in there somewhere!
Kids are sure to have a great time during their visit with a trip to the Polar Play Zone. While they are here, the young ones in the family can try on penguin suits and zip down slides. They’ll also have the opportunity to play around in a kid-sized submarine. There is even a kiddie sized touch pool that is filled with different colored sea stars.
Your ticket into the museum also includes a visit to the stingray touch experience. This experience is seasonal from late May until October so if this is a must do on your list, visit when the attraction is open during those months. The 4D Experience is not included but you can purchase tickets at the museum for $3.00.
