Where can you combine history, interactive experiences, and fun that doesn’t feel like a museum? With a visit to the Field Museum of course! One of Chicago’s many museums, you’ll find yourself among dinosaurs, learning about nature, and having a ball of fun all at the same time! 365Tickets USA has your tickets and tips for planning your visit.
The Field Museum is located in the heart of Chicago’s Museum Campus. Directly next to the Shedd Aquarium, it’s easily accessible by car, bike, or public transit. The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
One of the best stops in the entire museum is that of Maximo! Don’t miss your chance to take a photo with Maximo in the main floor. He is approximately 122 feet long and his head peeks over the second floor balcony. You can also touch him and see his five foot long femur bone.
Looking for something fun for the little ones? Don’t miss the Crown Family PlayLab. The interactive space is designed for children ages 2 through 6. The hall is perfect for the age that loves to touch and explore at their own pace. Within this exhibit, little ones can crawl into a dinosaur nest, play paleontologist, star in a nature play complete with an animal costume, make their own music with instruments from around the world, explore a pueblo home and much more.
Another great spot for little ones: Underground Adventure. When you visit the exhibition, prepare to shrink down to the size of a bug. You’ll learn all about soil and how we all need soil to survive. Afraid of bugs? This might not be the best exhibit for you to experience as it’s home to wolf spiders, mole crickets, ants, and many more.
For those of you who love photography and are obsessed with getting the perfect shot, this next exhibit is for you. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit will put you up close to some of the most incredible photos ever taken. The gallery is home to 100 of the best photos taken of wildlife throughout the year. A panel of experts selects the 100 photographs from over 45,000 entries.
Ancient History buffs, this museum is the place for you to visit. In the exhibit Inside Ancient Egypt, you’ll be able to see some real ancient artifacts! The Field Museum is home to floor to ceiling hieroglyphics in the mastaba of Unis-Ankh, a 4,000 year old royal boat that belonged to Pharaoh Senwosret III, scenes from the Nile River Valley, a shrine to the cat-goddess Bastet and more. While you take on this exhibit, you’ll also be able to immerse yourself in learning the mummification process.
The Field Museum also offers exhibition halls on China, dinosaurs, birds, DDay warriors, the history of Chicago, and gems. The museum has four 3D movies on the history of China, Museum Alive, Egypt 3D: Secrets of the Mummies, and Walking the TRex 3D. Ready to fully immerse yourself in all the Field Museum has to offer?
