Vacations can take a lot out of a budget. Between plane trips, hotel stays, car rentals, souvenirs, and attractions, it’s no wonder why people only take few vacations a year. If you are traveling to Chicago and don’t want to bust your budget, invest in a Chicago Explorer Pass.

The Chicago Explorer Pass Makes It Easy To See It All

Chicago SculptureThe Chicago Explorer Pass makes sightseeing and saving money a breeze. Keeping track of the pass is also a breeze. Simply download the Smart Destinations App (on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store) and save your pass there. No need to keep up with a paper copy or fear that you might lose it.

Depending on which pass you purchase, you’ll have access to three, four or five different attractions. You’ll be able to bypass most ticket counters as many attractions have separate lines for Chicago Explorer Passholders.

All the Top Attractions

Some of our favorite attractions that are on the pass include SkyDeck Chicago, 360 Chicago, Adler Planetarium, Art Institute of Chicago and the Field Museum.  One of the most enjoyable for us was the Museum of Science and Industry which was fascinating.

Some other faves included the Legoland Discovery Center,  the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Tour (especially for architecture fans) and great way to spend an evening is with the Big Bus Chicago for the Panoramic Night Tour, Shoreline Classic Lake Tour, and Tall Ship WINDY.

If you wake up and the weather is unfavorable for outside activities, don’t worry. You don’t have to preplan or preselect any of your attractions. You just show up at the gate, scan your card and you are in.

Each card also comes with a handy guidebook to help you decide what you want to do. The guidebook has small paragraphs of info on what the attraction is and also useful information as far as operating days and hours, parking information, and more.

Some attractions are more popular than others so plan to arrive early if the guidebook shows you the popularity level. Some attractions are also seasonal so be sure to check ahead of time if the attraction you’d like to visit is open and operational.
