6 Totally Free + Amazing Downtown Hollywood Sights!

Looking for a reprieve from the high cost of Southern California sightseeing? We’ve got just the answer –  Downtown Hollywood. By far one of the best areas for free experiences, Downtown Hollywood offers plenty in the way of sightseeing. Here are six of our favorite no-cost sights in Hollywood:

Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is iconic…Where else can you find celebrities, athletes, Presidents, and influential individuals all in one place? The 1.3-mile walk provides tourists with the opportunity to take pictures with the famous pink and gold stars. Don’t forget to bring the camera, because you never know if someone is being honored with a star unveiling that day!

Chinese Theater

Place your handprints and footprints with the legends in front of the historic Chinese Theater. This classic venue was home to some of the most elite movie premieres in the 1940’s. Among the stars, chase your wizard side with the handprints of the cast from Harry Potter, stand in Michael Jackson’s footprints, or see where Marilyn Monroe placed her hands. Many visitors take photos here, so be sure to stop by!

Hollywood and Highland Mall

The Hollywood and Highland Mall puts you right in the middle of the action on Hollywood Boulevard. The mall provides guests with a chance to visit restaurants or shops without having to leave the downtown Hollywood area. With the mall completely outside, guests can enjoy sunny SoCal weather and all the entertainment. Hollywood and Highland also offers parking and validation, which comes at a premium in the greater Los Angeles area.

Hollywood Bowl

This unique outdoor performance venue, which is about a 20-minute walk from Downtown Hollywood, has a rich history. The Los Angeles Philharmonic plays here, along with big name artists like Luke Bryan, New Kids on the Block, and touring casts of Broadway’s biggest shows. The bowl is open to the public for hiking, picnicking, and family fun seven days a week.

Much like New York City, Los Angeles is full of impersonators that are commonly found up and down Hollywood Boulevard. Although these impersonators work for tips, kids can meet their favorite Hollywood actors. Travel to the pineapple under the sea for a photo with Spongebob or pose with Freddy and Jason from the popular horror movies.

Jimmy Kimmel Live

The land of the rich and famous is home to some of the biggest TV shows in the world. You can score free tickets to see many of these shows by doing a quick Google search. Research for these tickets in advance many times, the popularity of the guests can make tickets go quickly.

Quick Facts:

-Have coins on hand, parking meters are popular in Los Angeles, and street parking comes at a price. Pay attention to parking signage to avoid having your car towed!

-Drive before and after rush hour! Traffic in Los Angeles is no laughing matter. If you get caught on the freeway at the wrong time, you can be in for a very long commute.

-Downsize bags as much as possible. Try to carry small purses or backpacks if possible, some attractions are picky about bag size and you could be turned away if your bag is too large.

-Carry a portable phone charger. You’ll be taking lots of pictures, so make sure you carry a backup phone charger so you can post all those famous photos on Instagram!
